ABOUT THE FARM

AERIAL VIEW

Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms was incorporated in Kentucky in 1987. The original Hill ‘n’ Dale was founded in Canada in 1960 by John Sikura Jr., the father of Hill ‘n’ Dale owner and president John G. Sikura. Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms encompasses 1300 rolling acres of prime Kentucky bluegrass, on the site of the former North Ridge Farm, the Eclipse Award winning breeder of 1989. Hill ‘n’ Dale has operated a high quality sales agency since its inception and began standing stallions in the mid 1990s. Today, the farm has developed into one of the premier full-service thoroughbred operations in the world.

Hill ‘n’ Dale currently stands some of the most exciting stallions in the business;  North American top sire Stormy Atlantic, who was a top 10 on the General Sire List, top 5 Turf Sire and top 15 All-Weather Sire in 2008.  Hill 'n' Dale is also proud to offer promising 2009 juvenile sires Grand Reward, a royally-bred young Grade 2-winning son of Storm Cat and Serena’s Song; multiple graded-stakes winner and millionaire Roman Ruler; and Closing Argument, a graded-stakes winner and runner-up in the 2005 Kentucky Derby.  Hill 'n' Dale is also offering several new stallions for 2009; Heatseeker (Ire), a Grade 1-winning, multiple surface winner son of Giant's Causeway; Seeking the Dia (Jpn), one of the best dirt horses of all-time in Japan; Harlington, a Grade 2-winning son of Unbridled and Serena's Song; Midnight Lute, the only two-time winner of the Breeder's Cup Sprint; and Indygo Shiner, the only Argentine horse to have two Argentine Classic winners in the same year.

Hill ‘n’ Dale also operates one of the leading sales agencies in North America. Hill 'n' Dale started out the 2009 sales year strongly at the Keeneland January Sale with the highest average price of all top 10 consignors.  In 2008, Hill 'n' Dale had an outstanding year as 5th leading consignor at the yearling sales, 2nd leading consignor of weanlings, and was the top consignor of broodmare and broodmare prospects.  Hill 'n' Dale sold the world-record priced broodmare Better Than Honour, dam of the 2006 and 2007 Belmont Stakes winners, for $14 million at the 2008 Fasig-Tipton November sale.  Hill 'n' Dale also sold the top-priced broodmare Irish Cherry at the Keeneland January sale.  In 2007, Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency finished as the 4th overall leading consignor by gross at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale and 2nd overall at the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, also selling then-record-priced broodmare Playful Act for $10.5 million as agent for the Swettenham Stud Estate.

Hill ‘n’ Dale offers a full-service bloodstock division that offers auction representation at every major North American sale, and the ability to buy and sell stallion seasons, shares, and racehorses publicly or privately.  We assist our clients with a portfolio management program to help them achieve their goals in the equine business.

In addition to our services, we are also a large boarding facility that offers world-class care to our residents. Hill ‘n’ Dale is home to some elite broodmares, including Horse of the Year Azeri; two-time champion Silverbulletday; Quendom, the dam of 2006 Horse of the Year Invasor (Arg); as well as Grade 1 winners Madcap Escapade, Zaftig, Lady Tak and Behaving Badly.

Hill 'n' Dale is also the final resting place for the legendary racehorse and stallion Seattle Slew, winner of the 1977 Triple Crown and leading sire of such horses as A.P. Indy, Slew o' Gold, Landaluce and countless others.

Hill ‘n’ Dale’s prime location allows for easy access to the finest veterinary care in the world. We are less than 15 minutes from Rood and Riddle Hospital and Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. We are also a short drive from world-class racing and auctions at Keeneland Race Course, and are close to Lexington Blue Grass Airport.
