One night after MY INDY (Arg) held off Happy Boy (Brz) (Ski Champ) to capture the G3 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2, another runner by Indygo Shiner out of a Southern Halo mare was an easy winner of the Listed UAE 1000 Guineas. So Shiny broke her maiden by eight lengths at Palermo March 23 in her second start, then was denied by a short neck by Savoir Bien (Arg) (Bernstein) in the 1500-meter G1 Gran Premio Jorge de Atucha May 3. Making her first start off the layoff here, the chestnut was a bit rank early while racing on the lead under jockey Mick Kinane's tight hold before she relaxed to set a modest pace. Challenged by Purple Sage and Esta Bailando nearing the 400-meter mark, So Shiny responded to Kinane's urging and kicked clear from her foes to post a three-length victory.

My Indy (Arg) (Indygo Shiner), making his first start since a sixth in last year' s G2 UAE Derby on the Dubai World Cup card, returned to Nad Al Sheba to post an emphatic 5 3/4-length victory in the G3 Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Challenge- Round I on opening night of the Dubai International Racing Carnival.

The five-year-old Godolphin colorbearer, who pressed the pace while caught three-wide around the turn, forged to the front approaching the 400-meter marker and widened under Frankie Dettori's mild urging.
"It has been a great first night back and My Indy has won
well," Dettori said."I assume the second round of the
Maktoum Challenge will be his next target."

My Indy commenced his career in 2007 with two dominant wins at Palermo in his native Argentina, where he competed for his breeder Haras La Quebrada. Following a five-length debut victory, the dark bay
closed strongly to take the G2 Clasico Coronel Miguel F. Martinez by four lengths.

He was subsequently purchased by Godolphin. His trainer Saeed bin Surror was confident about the colt' s chances entering the Al Maktoum Challenge. "We were very hopeful coming into the race as he had been working very well indeed," bin Suroor told Racing Post. "We knew he had improved a lot from last season and, hopefully, he is a nice horse for the carnival and beyond."

Indygo Shiner to stand at Hill 'n' Dale

Indygo Shiner, who is represented by four Argentine group I winners this year, will stand the 2009 breeding season at John Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms near Lexington. The Kentucky-bred, 10-year-old son of A.P. Indy will stand for $7,500. He was sent to Argentina for stallion duty in 2003.

According to a farm press release, Indygo Shiner is the only horse in modern Argentine history to sire both an Argentine Derby and Oaks winner in the same year. Indygo Shiner’s son, Tecla Shiner, captured the Nacional-Argentine Derby (Arg-I), and a daughter, Miss Match, won the Seleccion-Argentine Oaks (Arg-I).

Indygo Shiner’s classic connection extends further. Indygo Shiner also is the sire of Mi Amiguit'o , winner of the classic Polla de Potrillos-Argentina Two Thousand Guineas (Arg-I) and third in the Nacional. His other stakes winners this year include group I winner Garatero. Overall, Indygo Shiner is represented by seven group winners from his first two crops.

“Indygo Shiner is the product of two of the world’s leading breeders in Lane’s End and Juddmonte Farms,” said Hill ‘n’ Dale owner John Sikura.

A.P. Indy stands at William S. Farish’s Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Ky., and Indygo Shiner’s dam, Navarra (by El Gran Senor), was bred by Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms, located near Lexington.

“He is by the most important sire and emerging sire of sires in North America,” Sikura said about A.P. Indy. “His (Indygo Shiner’s) female family is impeccable, as he is out of Navarra, a graded stakes-winning full sister to Kentucky Broodmare of the Year Toussaud.

“His success in Argentina has been unparalleled as he is currently the leading sire with just two crops to race. Indygo Shiner offers breeders a great opportunity to breed to a leading sire that has the potential to become an important sire in North America. He is a stunning individual that hails from one of the greatest pedigrees in the stud book.”

Bred by Summer Wind Farm, Indygo Shiner raced in North America, winning or placing in four graded stakes. He finished first or second in seven of 12 starts and earned $444,066. Summer Wind has retained a 25% interest in the horse.
