Mr. Sekiguchi, an $8 Million yearling by Storm Cat, to Hill'n' Dale
Mr. Sekiguchi, an $8,000,000 son of Storm Cat out of a half-sister to Leading Sire A.P. Indy, will join the Stallion roster at Hill Œn¹ Dale Farms in Lexington, Kentucky, for the 2008 Breeding Season. Mr. Sekiguchi was never worse than second in all of his career starts.
"Mr Sekiguchi has a world of talent. He ran 1:08 2/5 at Santa Anita and had the ability to be a top horse," said his trainer Bob Baffert. "It was unfortunate that a tibia injury forced him to the sidelines before he got a chance to win a major race. Anyone that sees the horse will breed to him.
He is that good looking, with the best pedigree in the stud book."
His dam, Welcome Surprise, is a half-sister to two-time Leading Sire A.P.
Indy, as well as to Summer Squall, sire of a dual Classic winner and Horse of the Year and 10% overall Stakes winners. In addition, Welcome Surprise is also a half-sister to Honor Grades, the Sire of five Grade/Group 1 winners. Mr. Sekiguchi's sire, Storm Cat, has topped the General Sire List multiple times and is the Sire of prominent Stallions Giant's Causeway, Forestry, Stormy Atlantic, the late Hennessy, Forest Wildcat and Tale of the Cat.
"We have had fantastic luck with this type of horse," said John G. Sikura, President of Hill 'n'Dale Farms. "He is a really fast son of Storm Cat and was an $8 million yearling from the immediate family of A.P. Indy. It doesn¹t get any better than that. Standing for $5,000 live foal, he is just what breeders are looking for."
